Roberts Creek Community School

What is a Community School?

A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on the whole child, social & emotional learning, community development and community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities
Roberts Creek Community School has been providing enhanced learning opportunities through a variety of programs, from in-curriculum mindfulness lessons to after-school programs like Night’s Alive.

Affiliated Organizations

Roberts Creek Community School is part of a larger network of Community Schools:

Sunshine Coast Family of Community Schools: Five Community Schools providing programs to students and the community in collaboration with School District 46.

Ace BC: A network of BC Community Schools.

Coalition for Community Schools: A network of North American Community Schools operating out of Washington, DC.

School Programs

The Roberts Creek Community school supports programs district-wide and provides site-based programs at Cedar Grove and Roberts Creek Elementary Schools on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia

Breakfast for Kids Program

At both Roberts Creek and Cedar Grove Elementary Schools, student and parent teams provide universal access to hot breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, and other nutritious and tasty food at both schools. The Gumboot Café in Roberts Creek generously donates beautiful fresh muffins and fruit every Monday morning.

Cedar Grove Elementary Restorative Justice Program

A trained instructor, in tandem with classroom teachers, facilitates weekly Circle Practices in several Cedar Grove classrooms. Students participate in weekly Circle sessions and practice social emotional skills in a fun and nurturing environment.

Fine Arts Programming

Roberts Creek Community School Society administers and delivers free fine arts programming to grade 4-6 students after school at many of our elementary schools across the coast. Accomplished local artists mentor students to stretch their artistic abilities, supported by a staff person experienced in bringing out the best in children.

Garden & Other Fun Stuff Club

An out-of-school program at Roberts Creek Elementary, students are invited to help grow our garden. When weather is not so inviting, we take it indoors, sometimes cooking, working on special arts projects, or just hanging out together.

Nights Alive!

Nights Alive is a recreational program that offers grade 6 and 7 students the opportunity to be active and to socialize in a safe and supervised environment on Friday evenings from 5-8 pm. Some of the fun activities include cooperative games, organized sports, movies, field trips to the beach, walks to the local store, special events, guest speakers, and just hanging out.

Reading Mentor Program For Primary Students

In an effort to nurture the love of reading, a dynamic team of volunteers from the community are working one-on-one with students from our primary classrooms at Cedar Grove and Roberts Creek Schools. Using a classroom selection of engaging literature, mentors read to the children and listen to the children read.

Red Cross Babysitting

A certified instructor will teach participants 11 years and up what they need to know and what every parent wants in a responsible babysitter, including how to begin your babysitting business, care for babies and young children, and how to prevent and handle emergencies.

The Roberts Creek Legacy Garden

Responding to a resurgence of interest in organic, home grown food, and given a growing awareness that local food sovereignty and independence is of increasing importance as a ferry dependent community, The Roberts Creek Legacy Garden will be a hub for demonstrating small-scale, organic growing practices, and providing hands-on educational opportunities for the school & broader community.
