Since 2020, this Sunshine Coast-wide initiative has supported Grade 6/7 students transitioning to high school through sports, arts, social-emotional, and cultural programs. It bridges elementary and secondary schools, helping students adjust to new settings and connect with future classmates. Since 2021, Future Leader mentors have supported daily programming.
Grade 7 students will build leadership, identity, and community through experiential programming. Using outdoor activities, games, and reflection, they recognize resilience and contribute to their schools. With SEL Navigator support, they connect their learning to high school transition, gaining confidence in their abilities and sense of belonging in their new community.
Schools Out runs 8–10 weeks per term at local secondary schools. Each session begins with transition activities like school tours, scavenger hunts, or guest-led discussions. The remainder features expert-led programming in arts, sports, and culture, supported by the SEL Navigator, ensuring a smooth and engaging transition to high school.
Journeys to Highschool supports Indigenous Grade 7 students on shíshálh and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw lands. It connects students, families, and school staff, fostering relationships and support for a smooth transition. Beginning with a Community Dinner, the program includes activities that build friendships, peer connections, and familiarity with the high school environment.
SPARK! to Secondary - is an educational evening for caregivers with youth transitioning to high school that provides tools and strategies for easing and supporting the transition to parenting a high schooler. Covering: Adolescence the bridge from Childhood to Adulthood, Emotional & Social Changes, Relationship as the protector and influencer, Parenting a Teen and Communication.
